Linda Garrett

Linda Garrett, 78, passed away on December 26, 2025 at UnityPoint Health - Iowa Lutheran Hospital.

Linda was born June 23, 1947, in Des Moines to Ivan and Mabel (Pownell) Chapman. While in the 7th grade she started dating the love of her life, Thomas Garrett and they were together ever since. Linda graduated from East High School in 1964, where she excelled in synchronized swimming. Her style was simple and elegant. Linda was very graceful and poised. She loved her family, and was a mother to all. When her boys were young, she was a Den Leader and she was very involved in the PTA as well as their other school and youth activities. Linda never knew a stranger.

She loved family vacations, especially to Florida, Indiana and Niagra Falls. She also enjoyed boating and gardening. She was especially fond of fairy gardens, decorative fairies and paper dolls. Linda was an avid fan of Betty Boop and last but not least, she loved to shop.

Linda is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Thomas Garrett; children, Brent (Chrissy) Garrett, Chris (Christine) Garrett and Cory (Dawn) Garrett; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Charles Chapman and Carol Mable; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Sharon Johannsen.

The family will greet friends on Monday, January 12, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Linda will be laid to rest at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
