Linda Rebecca Nikkel

Linda Rebecca Nikkel, age 76, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at her home in Des Moines.

Linda was born January 28, 1950, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Roland and Marjorie MacDonald. She was a very musical person and enjoyed playing the flute and piccolo in her high school marching band and was also a majorette. She graduated from Bethany Lutheran College in Lindsborg, Kansas with her Bachelor’s degree in Music. She earned her Master’s degree in Human Services from Webster University in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Her love of music continued throughout her life and she was proud to have played in an orchestra in Minneapolis when she resided there.

Linda loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a sports fan and liked watching basketball and NASCAR. She loved the outdoors and spent many hours hiking and camping. She also had an artistic side and was skilled at photography, crocheting, knitting, crafting, and pottery.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Dean Petersen (Natalie); her grandchildren, Tyler, Bryce, Ayden, and Zayne; her siblings, David MacDonald, Douglas MacDonald, Barbara Froelich, Judy Stahlbush, Erika Floming, Chris Jacobson, and Karen Lamar; as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Linda was preceded in death by her mother, Marjorie MacDonald; father, Roland MacDonald; stepmother, Helen MacDonald; husband, Nik Nikkel; and her son, Matthew Petersen.

There will be a celebration of life to be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
