Lyndell D. Wolff
March 26, 1959 — May 22, 2026
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce Lyndell passed away on May 22, 2026 due to complications from a heart attack. Lyndell, a Southern California native, lived and worked his entire life in the Los Angeles area. Lyndell’s life spirit was fueled by artistic expression and he was fortunate to apply his artistic talents as a co-owner of a shop which designed prototypes, restored Art Nouveau/Craftsman furniture, and created art pieces. Lyndell went on to apply his artistic talents to over 59 feature films as a finish carpenter, pyro technician, special effects constructor and foreman in IATSE Local 44. After retiring from the film industry, Lyndell was finally able to pursue his art on a full-time basis. The only thing Lyndell loved better than creating art was how his artwork would touch and move others.
Lyndell’s artistic talent was first publicly acknowledged by winning a pipe-carving competition that included an exhibition in Europe and initiation into a centuries-old pipe carving fraternity “La Confrerie des Maitres Pipiers de Saint-Claude.” Lyndell’s artwork was further acknowledged/celebrated by private commissions for Whiskey a Go-Go and the Catholic Church, as well as several magazine articles, and a one-man show at Gallery 30 South.
Whether rescuing animals, mastering artistic pursuits, perfectly repairing the imperfect (wabi sabi), quenching his insatiable curiosity or showing up with quiet dependability, Lyndell was a rare blend of talent, humility, integrity, and honor. His love of music, water, nature, and creative expression was boundless. He possessed a remarkable gift for storytelling, an ability to describe the indescribable, and a sense of humor that brought joy to those fortunate enough to know him. Lyndell’s steadfastness in his higher power gave him the strength and grace to be present for friends and family who he deeply cherished. His absence will be deeply felt, but the values he embodied, the wisdom he shared, the beauty he created, and the kindness he shared will endure. I am a better person for having known and loved him.
Lyndell is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sharon Wolff (née Sims); and his brother, David Wolff (Cindie). He also leaves behind his beloved nieces and nephews, Kristin Engel (Evan), Matt Wolff (Alexa), Anastasia Bleess, Anya Adamson, TJ Sims (Allie), Jeremy Sims (Stephanie), and Ian Sims (April); as well as twelve great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Naomi Wolff (née Hollingshead), his father, Martin Wolff, and his sister, Rebekah Wolff.
Celebration of life will be held at a date to be announced.
