Michael Bert Callahan

Michael Bert Callahan, age 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 26, 2025, while under the care of Suncrest Hospice.
Mike was born September 10, 1944, in Pleasantville, Iowa to Benjamin and Rachel Callahan. After high school, Mike served in the Air Force where he was a jet mechanic. He was a very proud Vietnam Veteran. Following his military service, he was employed by Firestone for a time. Mike then owned Callahan Auto Body Shop with his brother. He worked in sales for most of his life.
Mike was a Shriner and active at the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. He was also a Mason and a member of the VFW. His interests included golf, cars, and motorcycles.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy; children, Jon (Carolyn) Callahan and Kellie (Chad) Mallett; grandchildren, Kile (Laken) Callahan, Clayton Callahan, Jamilee (Mikel) Pickett, Amber (Eli) Canfield, Christopher (Lindsey) Callahan, Katelyn Callahan, Logan Christenson, Hannah Fitzgerald, Dylan Fitzgerald, Carter (McKenzie) Mallett, and Jared (Makayla) Mallett; 18 great-grandchildren with two on the way; sister, Nancy (Bryan) Sams; sister-in-law, Katherine Callahan; and a host of other extended family and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Callahan; grandson, Josh Callahan; brother, Doug Callahan; and his parents, Benjamin and Rachel Callahan.
Funeral service with military honors will begin at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, and will be followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
