Maria Jimenez-Alcaraz

María Del Refugio Jimenez-Alcaraz, de 87 años, falleció pacíficamente en su casa el sábado 31 de enero de 2026. Nació el 26 de junio de 1938 en Ixtlahuacán del Río, Jalisco, México, hija de María Luisa Alcaraz y José Jimenez. María se mudó a Estados Unidos en 1995 y posteriormente se estableció en Des Moines, Iowa, en 2006.

María era una fiel miembro de la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de las Américas. Era ama de casa y se enorgullecía de cuidar su hogar y su familia. Era muy trabajadora y siempre usaba delantal, teniendo uno en cada habitación de su casa. Amaba a sus hijos, nietos y bisnietos por encima de todo y atesoraba las reuniones familiares, en las que reunía a todos. Era una excelente cocinera y su plato estrella era la birria con arroz y tortillas hechas a mano. Era lo que su familia le pedía con más frecuencia, y fue la última comida que preparó con tanto cariño para ellos.

A María le encantaba el punto de cruz y los juegos de mesa, especialmente la Lotería. También le gustaba ir a los casinos. Tenía mucha suerte y siempre ganaba. Era el pilar de su familia y su fallecimiento dejará un vacío imposible de llenar. Será recordada con cariño y echada de menos por todos los que la conocieron.

Le sobreviven con mucho cariño sus hijos, Francisco (Enedelia) Gonzalez, Nazario Gonzalez, Alejandro Gonzalez, Antonio Gonzalez, Jose Maria (Martha) Gonzalez, Domitila Gonzalez y Guadalupe Gonzalez, numerosos nietos y bisnietos, así como una gran cantidad de familiares y amigos.

Le precedieron en la muerte su esposo de 65 años, Esteban Gonzalez Gutierrez; sus hermanos, Jesús y Julio; y su hermana, Teresa.

El velorio se llevará a cabo de 3:00 a 5:00 p.m. el domingo 8 de febrero de 2026 en la Funeraria Hamilton, ubicada en 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. La misa de cuerpo presente se celebrará a las 11:00 a.m. del lunes 9 de febrero de 2026 en la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de las Américas, 1271 East 9th Street, Des Moines. La familia recibirá a los amigos de 9:00 a 11:00 a.m. en la iglesia antes de la misa. María será sepultada junto a su esposo, Esteban, en el Cementerio Laurel Hill, en Des Moines.

Maria Del Refugio Jimenez-Alcaraz, age 87, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 31, 2026. She was born the daughter of Maria Louisa Alcaraz and Jose Jimenez on June 26, 1938, in Ixtlahuacan Del Rio, Jalisco, Mexico. Maria moved to the United States in 1995 and later settled in Des Moines, Iowa in 2006.

Maria was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and took great pride in caring for her home and her family. She was a hard worker and always wore aprons, having one in every room of her house. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren above all else and she cherished family gatherings, bringing everyone together. She was an excellent cook and her signature dish was birria with rice and hand made tortillas. It was what her family requested the most, and it was the last meal she lovingly prepared for them.

Maria enjoyed cross stitch and board games, especially Lotería. She also liked going to the casinos. She was very lucky and was always a winner. She was the cornerstone of her family and her passing will leave a void that cannot be filled. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Francisco (Enedelia) Gonzalez, Nazario Gonzalez, Alejandro Gonzalez, Antonio Gonzalez, Jose Maria (Martha) Gonzalez, Domitila Gonzalez, and Guadalupe Gonzalez, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a host of extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Esteban Gonzalez Gutierrez; her brothers, Jesus and Julio; and her sister, Teresa.

There will be a visitation from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 9, 2026, at Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Church, 1271 East 9th Street, Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Maria will be laid to rest beside her husband, Esteban at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Des Moines.
