Melva L. Peterson
June 12, 1955 — September 30, 2025
Melva Lorraine Peterson, age 70, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at her home in Des Moines.
Melva was born June 12, 1955, in Estherville, Iowa to Harlan and Lorraine Peterson. She was a dedicated healthcare provider and a caregiver for many. Melva’s pride and joy were her family and she loved her grandkids above all else. Spending time with them was her favorite pastime.
Melva loved her friends like family and made many close connections through her church and her women’s group, who she called her “sisters”. Her faith was a guiding force in her life and she was a dedicated member of Heartland Church. She loved her dear friends in the Black Diamonds Club and her Mama Bear Prayer Group. She enjoyed dinner out and had many favorite restaurants. Melva loved unconditionally and if you were blessed to know her, you were like family. She will be greatly missed.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Ty Green, Anthony Peterson, and Nicole Butler (Troy); grandchildren, Aalaysha, Paxton, Mira, Abram, Ellie, Brielle, Anthony Jr., and Amarra; siblings, Gary (Patty), Gloria (David), Orville, and Rashelle; and 27 nieces and nephews. Also honoring her memory are the Black Diamonds Group – Becky Springer, Gloria Solomon, Judith DeVries, Kim Hammond, and LaVal Anderson.
Melva was preceded in death by her parents, Lorraine and Harlan Peterson.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. To Melva's Family,
I have had the honor and pleasure of working with Melva at Home Instead for the past 18 years. We just honored her for her 21 years of service at our convention this August. Melva was a light to all those who knew her. She was a gift to the clients she served and to those of us in the office. She was loving, generous, unflappable, and incredibly gifted. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We will forever fondly remember, Melva.
