Joan J. Malone
November 30, 1950 — May 23, 2025
Joan Jean Malone was born in Des Moines, Iowa to her parents Joe and Elenora Malone on
November 30, 1950. Named by her father, she would later be called JoAnn Mitchell-Malone.
She was a wife, mother, Nana, and Great Grandma. She is at rest after a brief, but aggressive
battle from lung cancer on May 23, 2025 at 8:03 a.m at the age of 74.
Mom will be remembered for being, “a very special lady”. It was almost impossible leaving her
house without something she owned. She was always most concerned with people being well
fed and if they were without. It's no surprise that her number one love in the world is Elvis
Presley. She loved music, movies, and especially discovering old actors and actresses. It
might surprise some that she had a love for video games, especially the Resident Evil franchise.
My mom was brilliant, not because of education, but she could handle almost every situation
with a reassuring ending and her brilliance never ceased to amaze me on that.
JoAnn Mitchell-Malone is survived by one brother, her daughter Lisa Mitchell-Johnson, her son Ken (Camie McBee) Mitchell, her two Granddaughters Kailey Johnson and Raven West, and her three Great Granddaughters Willow West, Piper West, and Everly
West. There is no memorial service at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you
make a donation to a charity of your choice.
“...Come away with me, there's a wondrous land, where I'll build you a home in the Meadow.”
