Marc D. McVey

Service Details

Marc Daniel McVey passed away on July 4, 2026 at the age of 57.

Marc was born September 17, 1968, in Osceola, Iowa to Gerald “Phil” and Linda (Stubbs) McVey. He was raised on a farm near Weldon, Iowa and attended Mormon Trail High School in Garden Grove, Iowa. He continued his education and earned an Associate’s Degree in Electronics in 1990.

Growing up, Marc was fearless. He had a love of anything with an engine, particularly those that were fast. Cars, motorcycles, dirt bikes, four-wheelers, boats, go-karts, you name it. This love resulted in a few trips to the hospital, followed by a few surgeries during his lifetime.

He became a creative and talented Autobody Technician or ‘body man’ as he called it. He repaired, painted, and restored vehicles. He was also ambidextrous and very mechanically inclined. He could always figure out how anything is supposed to work and fix it.

His talents spilled over into other things like construction, landscaping, plumbing, etc. He put up his own 30x60 shop and in it, designed, built, and painted his own custom motorcycle from the frame, to the Harley engine, to his own paint designs.

In 2004, he achieved a life-long dream of owning his own business when he purchased B&B Optical. He owned and operated the business for over a decade where he and his staff manufactured and assembled custom prescription eyewear.

While he took immense pride and joy in completing tasks with great precision, he was also extremely determined to have fun, oftentimes, without any prior planning or forethought. If he wanted to take a boat out on Saylorville lake, he did it. If he wanted to take a helicopter tour of Des Moines, he did it. If he thought floating down the Des Moines river sounded like fun, he did it.

Marc was that friend you could always count on if you needed a hand. He would drop his own projects or plans, purchase some extra tools, arrive a few minutes late, and help finish a project anytime anyone needed him.

He was also a loving father whose greatest source of pride was his son, Preston. Marc taught Preston how to drive a Go-Kart, ride a dirt-bike, appreciate heavy metal music, work on cars, and helped shape him into the man he is today.

Surviving family members include his son, Preston McVey of Des Moines, IA; parents, Gerald “Phil” and Linda McVey of Weldon, IA; sister, Tammy Suchomel of Columbus, WI; brother, Christopher “Chris” McVey of Waukee, IA; nieces and nephew: Shauna Lacey-Rathermel of Baraboo, WI; Jennifer “Jenny” Hall of Baraboo, WI; Alex Gunderson of Baraboo, WI.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Eldon “Gerald” and Violet McVey; Benjiman “Ben” and Wilma “Maxine” Stubbs.

Private family services were held on Tuesday, July 14th, 2026.
