Marjorie Mildred Vanderlinden
March 21, 1928 — May 16, 2026
Marjorie Mildred Vanderlinden (née Casady) died on May 16, 2026 in Urbandale, Iowa. Marjorie was born in rural Missouri (Graysville) in 1928 to Victor and Violet (née Mathes) Casady. She graduated from Unionville High School, and then completed coursework at Northeast Missouri State Teacher’s College in Kirksville, Missouri while teaching in a one-room schoolhouse up through the time when she met and married Sydney “Syd” Vanderlinden in 1951.
The couple raised four children and made many moves through central Missouri until settling in West Des Moines, Iowa in 1973. Marjorie attended church at First Assembly of God in Des Moines and devoted her time to making a loving home for her family. Earlier this year, she and Syd celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary.
Marjorie had a strong faith in God and first trusted in the Lord for salvation as a teenager. She lived a faith-filled life and prayed daily for her loved ones. She loved the Lord and her family, enjoyed flowers and collecting glassware, spent much of her free time reading magazines and books (especially cookbooks), and had an extensive collection of shoes. She, and her family, were grateful for the care she received in her final life stages at Glen Oaks/Story Point.
Marjorie is survived by her husband, Syd; her children, Tricia (Steve) Svejda, Cindy, Bill, and David; grandchildren, Sarah, Troy, Elizabeth, Emily, Jim, and Tom; and multiple nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; father-and mother-in-law, William W. and Gertrude Honor Vanderlinden; sister, Donna Mae Pinkerton; brothers- and sisters-in-law, George Pinkerton, Wilbur Charles and Helen Vanderlinden, Donald Andrew and Hazel Vanderlinden; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway with visitation on Thursday, May 21 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and the funeral service on Friday, May 22 at 1:00 p.m.
