Martha Amelia Mohler

Celebrating a life well lived. Martha Amelia (Cejka), Mohler, 82, Des Moines, Iowa was called home on August 27, 2025, after battling years of dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Martha was born in Mount Vernon, Iowa on June 26, 1943. She grew up with a very large family consisting of 4 sisters and 4 brothers. She married the love of her life, James Mohler and had 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Martha was the type of person that was well known and hard to forget. She was a social butterfly that loved meeting new people and talking to anyone and everyone from all walks of life while leaving a huge impact on anyone she came into contact with.

Martha had a variety of jobs throughout time including Warrens Steakhouse, which she continued for 20+ years, Riccelli’s Italian Restaurant, Mama Lacona’s, Nana Leones, Heather Manor, Hardees, River View Care Center, and a few other food service, hospitality, cleaning and laundry jobs. Martha was a very dedicated and hard-working individual. Most of her life she worked 2 jobs at a time and for many years not because she needed to but because she wanted to, since she enjoyed being around others. She walked everywhere and did not give a darn what others thought. She worked until she was forced to retire.

Martha truly enjoyed holidays and spending time with family and friends. Her close friends were considered family and that’s how they were treated. She really loved to sing, and dance around, be goofy and crazy.

Martha put the true meaning behind the saying, never judge a book by it’s cover, and she will never be forgotten!

Martha is survived by her daughters, Joanie, Julie, and Mary; grandchildren, Stephanie (Kristian), Brittany (Jay), Michael (Jessica), Alexander, and Jacob (Hailey); her great-grandchildren, Mauricio, Abel, Anastasia, Javier, Annabella, Jovanni, Sebastian, Stefan, Mya, Ella, Amelia, Sofia, Avery, and River; sisters, Barb, Suzan, Rita, and Theresa; brothers, Bernard and David; and a host of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, James Mohler; parents, Charles and Amelia Cejka; and her brothers, Albert and Arthur Cejka.

The family will greet friends Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Martha will be laid to rest at the Carlisle City Cemetery.
