Service Details

Mary Martina “Tina” Knosby, a devoted mother, grandmother, and respected healthcare professional, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, at the age of 95. A lifelong resident of the Des Moines area, Tina lived a life marked by service, intellect, and an enduring love for her family.

Born on October 11, 1929, Tina was a proud graduate of Drake University, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1951. Shortly thereafter, she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant upon completing her physical therapy training in the U.S. Army, beginning a distinguished career in physical rehabilitation and healthcare. Her work took her from military service to civilian care, including positions at Des Moines Methodist Hospital and, later, as Director of Physical Therapy at Broadlawns Polk County Hospital.

Tina’s deep compassion and dedication to healing left an indelible mark on countless patients and colleagues throughout her career. Outside of work, she found joy in her family and classical music, was an avid golfer, and cherished the company of good friends.

She is survived by her loving children: daughters, Janet Graham (Don) of Panora, Iowa, and Mary Brown (Ted) of New Virginia, Iowa; and son, Mark Stavish (Wendy) of Raleigh, North Carolina. Tina also leaves behind six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and three stepdaughters, Mickey Knosby of Ankeny, Iowa, Casey Ante of Story City, Iowa, and Nan Kiefer of San Diego, California—along with nine step-grandchildren; thirteen step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild—all part of the extended family she embraced with open arms.

Tina was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Tim Knosby; her sisters, Darlene Briggs and Sue Daskalos; her stepdaughter, Patti Lee Mrachek; her step-grandchild, Shannon Knosby; and her parents, Martin and Arlene Todd.

She will be remembered for her grace, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely.

A private graveside service will be held at St. John’s Cemetery in Cumming, Iowa, where Tina will be laid to rest next to Tim and other loved ones.
