Michael Jay King, 67, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 7, 2026 at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mike was born on December 7, 1958, in Des Moines, to Patrick and Barbara (Houlette) King. A lifelong resident of the West Des Moines area, Mike was a self-employed mechanic for more than 35+ years and was well known throughout the Valley Junction community.
He enjoyed fishing, building model cars, and collecting John Deere tractors. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Laura King; his sons, Sean King and Patrick (Rebecca) King; two granddaughters, Lily and Athena; and sister, Cheryl King.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steven King.

Mike helped me out countless times with my cars was always fair and honest. He couldn't have been more helpful. We will miss the conversations and the merriment.
