Mildred White, 89, was called home to Heaven in the late evening of Wednesday, July 23, 2025. She passed peacefully surrounded by the love of family.

Mrs. White was born Mildred Brown on September 17, 1935, in Oktaha, Oklahoma to Floyd and Willie Mae (Jarrell) Brown. Mildred and her family moved to the Des Moines area when she was five years of age. She was educated in the Des Moines Public Schools System, graduating from East High School. She married Eugene White and they enjoyed many wonderful years prior to his passing. Mildred worked for over 40 years for the Des Moines Public Schools as a Teacher’s Associate. She was a devout member of Maple Street Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on Usher Board #2. She was a dedicated wife and mother and enjoyed keeping a tidy home. She was very close with her mother, Willie Mae and loved spending time with her. She also cherished time with her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Mildred will be lovingly remembered by her son Virgil (Sylvia) White, son Maurice (Sherri) White, grandchildren, Garrett, Wishika, Shanette, Aisha, Maurice Jr., and Virgil II; special niece, Krystal; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other extended family, and many beloved friends.

She was greeted in Heaven by her husband and the apple of her eye, Eugene White; brother, Howard Brown; and her parents, Floyd and Willie Mae Brown.

Mildred’s homegoing celebration will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Maple Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1552 Maple Street, Des Moines at 11:00 a.m. Family will greet guests beginning at 10:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Eugene at Glendale Cemetery following the services.
