Norman "Bub" Hill

Norman “Bub” Hill, 91, passed away on April 22, 2024 at Altoona Nursing and Rehab. He was born on July 13, 1932, the son of Ben and Cecelia (Hohnholt) Hill, in Santee, Nebraska.

Norman attended the country school in Santee and Bloomfield, Nebraska. He met the love of his life, Helen Schmidt, and quickly fell in love. They were married on September 20, 1952 in Crofton, Nebraska. Norman retired as a welder from John Deere.

Norman loved the outdoors. He enjoyed coon hunting, mushroom hunting, gardening, working with horses, and going to the timber to cut wood. Norman loved all animals, especially his coonhounds, mules, and horses. Norman had the ability to fix anything and was proud that he was always able to provide for his family.

He is survived by his children, Jerry (significant other, Becky Morris) Hill, Steve (Pam) Hill, Scott (Diane) Hill, and Cheryl (Bruce) Gilbert; grandchildren, Joanna Hill, Ben Hill, Toby Hill, Jeremy Hill, Brad Hill, Josh Hill, Tim Hill, Jason Hill, Nicole Palmer, Tucker Gilbert, Hunter Gilbert, Kesley Auer, Scott McGhee, Andy McGhee, and Bryan McGhee; honorary granddaughter, Karen McGhee; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Marcella Hill.

Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; daughter, Linda McGhee; and siblings, Evelyn (Bob) Johnson, Howard Hill, Harold (Betty) Hill, Beth (Edgar) Sheilds, Donna (Irvin) Kracht, and Carol (Dean) Burdess.

Family will greet friends Tueday, April 30, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW in Altoona. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. at the funeral home with interment to follow at Lowman Cemetery, 11190 SE 56th Avenue in Runnells.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family that will be given to the Des Moines Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association at a later time.
