Service Details

Oakland Cash Walrath gained his angel wings on July 26, 2026, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by the unwavering love of his family.

Oakland was born on March 28, 2025, in West Des Moines, Iowa, to Joshua and Amanda Walrath. Though his time on earth was far too short, his life was filled with extraordinary love, courage, and purpose. From the very beginning, Oakland faced significant medical challenges and fought with remarkable strength to remain with the family who cherished him beyond measure. Through every milestone, every smile, and every cuddle, he showed those around him the true meaning of resilience, unconditional love, and hope. In his final months, Oakland was lovingly cared for at home with the compassionate support of hospice, allowing him to spend his remaining time where he was happiest—in the arms of those who loved him most.

Despite the obstacles he faced, Oakland’s sweet spirit shined brightly. He loved snuggling with Mommy in the recliner, “running” in his crib with endless determination, and having long “talks” with Daddy. His infectious smile and quiet strength brought immeasurable joy to everyone blessed to know him.

Oakland shared a special bond with each of his siblings. His sister, Amayah, loved reading books to him and cherished every moment they spent together. His brother, Joshua Jr., treasured their quiet one-on-one time during the late nights or when Mom and Dad needed an extra hand. Everhett showered Oakland with endless hugs and kisses, always eager to show his love. His Irish-twin brother, Owen, shared an especially unique connection with Oakland—they were drawn to each other from the very beginning, and Owen had a natural way of comforting his little brother.

Although words can never fully capture the impact of such a precious life, Oakland will be remembered for his incredible strength, his gentle spirit, and the way he united those around him with love. His journey inspired countless acts of kindness, deepened faith, and reminded everyone who knew him to treasure every moment. Though his earthly battle has ended, his story will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved him.

Oakland is survived by his loving parents, Joshua and Amanda Walrath; his siblings, Mackenzie, Joshua Jr., Amayah, Everhett, and Owen Walrath; his paternal grandmother, Cathy Walrath; his maternal grandfather, Randall Smith and his grandmother, Roseann Smith; his beloved Auntie Alisha Tompkins; and many other family and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his namesakes, his paternal grandfather, Stephen Walrath, and his maternal grandmother, Angela Hanchett.

For every day of his 485 days, Oakland showed us that life is not measured by its length, but by the love it gives and the lives it changes.

Though Oakland’s time in our arms was brief, the love he gave and the lessons he taught will remain with us forever. He will always be deeply loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 2, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. A funeral service will be held Monday, August 3, at 11:00 a.m. at Keystone Church of Ankeny, 5525 NE Delaware Avenue, Ankeny, Iowa.

Memorial contributions may be made to Oakland’s family to help continue sharing his story and preserving his beautiful memory.
