Paul Shepherd, Jr., age 60, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, at MercyOne Medical Center. Born on August 24, 1965, in Des Moines, Paul cherished life and the love of his family.

He enjoyed camping at the family acreage “down yonder” and treasured every moment spent with his loved ones. Paul’s warmth, humor, and devotion to family left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Hazel; children Amanda (Stephen) Horvath, Stephaine (Joshua) Garrett, Kathleen (Ricky) NeSmith, and Dalton (Sara) Shepherd; grandchildren Mackenzie Sevedge, Madilyn McCann, Chloe Tenny, Zoey Shepherd, Ryker Horvath, Mia NeSmith, Elliee Shepherd, Ariella Garrett, and Obadiah Garrett; siblings Kathy Kester, Troy (Mary) Isenbrand, Todd Isenbrand, and Brian Isenbrand; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandchildren Eszence Faith, Riddick Horvath, Rekker Horvath, Soffia Shepherd, and three other heavenly angels; his mother, Nancy Isenbrand; and his grandmother, Elizabeth Holland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Elizabeth Holland Park in loving memory of Paul, honoring his grandmother, Elizabeth Holland.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor and remember him.
