Richard G. Baird

Richard Gregory Baird, age 78, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

Richard was born March 23, 1947, to Matthew and Fern Baird. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Richard had a deep love for the outdoors and spent as much time outside as possible. One of his favorite pastimes was woodworking. Richard also enjoyed traveling and camping. In quieter moments, he liked reading, taking on home renovation projects, and collecting coins.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife of 40 years, Karla Baird; children, Christina (Michael) Rains, Rebecca Clark, Sarah Baird, and Richard Baird, Jr. (Morgan Fitzgerald); grandchildren, Joshua (Takiesha) Baird, Jacob Baird, Lucas (Arianne) Rains, Sophia Clark, Haylee Farrell, and Sloane Baird; great-grandson, Theodore Rains; brothers, Larry (Ella Mae) Baird and Matthew (Mary) Baird; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Fern Baird and his brother, Patrick Baird.

There will be an open house on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Rising Sun Church of Christ in the gymnasium, 6390 NE Rising Sun Drive, Pleasant Hill, IA 50327.

Richard will be laid to rest with military honors at Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2026.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Iowa Patriot Guard.
