Richard “Dick” Ersland Brownell, age 71, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Carlisle Care Center under the care of St. Croix Hospice.

Dick was born November 29, 1953, in Algona, Iowa to Rolland “Rollie” Brownell and D. Joanne “Jo” (Ersland) Brownell. He resided in Fenton, Maxwell, and Slater, Iowa before settling in the Des Moines area. He graduated from East High School in Des Moines in 1972. He worked in custodial services for the Des Moines Public Schools System.

Dick is survived by his daughter, Nissa Rink (Doug); son, Jason Brownell (Krystal Field); grandson, Lucas Rink; sister, Vicki Campbell; niece, Shanna Campbell; and great-niece, Kenna Campbell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rollie and Jo Brownell; nephew, Ryan Campbell; and niece, Courtney Campbell.

Cremation will occur and Dick will be laid to rest at Bethlehem Cemetery in Slater, Iowa at a later time.
