Robert Cook
March 24, 1943 — April 30, 2025
Rev. Robert Charles Cook, 82, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
It is with deep reverence and heartfelt gratitude that we remember a life dedicated to service, faith, and compassion. As a devoted missionary in El Salvador and a retired Presbyterian minister, Robert Cook devoted his life to uplifting those in need and sharing the message of hope and love.
Robert was born March 24, 1943, in Dexter, Iowa to Ray and Audrey (Jenson) Cook. He devoted his life to God and service, pastoring to hundreds of people over his 50+ year career in the ministry.
His generosity knew no bounds—he was the kind of person who would give away his last dollar and shirt off his back if it meant easing someone else’s burden. This extraordinary kindness was not just a testament to his character but also a beacon of hope for many who crossed his path.
Throughout his ministry, he nurtured communities and inspired countless lives with his selfless spirit, reminding us all that true wealth lies in the love we share and the compassion we extend to others. His legacy leaves an indelible mark, and his teachings will continue to guide us on our own paths of service and humility.
We celebrate his life, honor his memory, and are forever grateful for the light he brought into our lives. May his soul rest in everlasting peace.
He is survived by his sons, Steven Cook and Jason Cook of Des Moines, and his three grandchildren Olivia, Vanessa, and Sienna.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Dutch and Audrey Cook, brothers Dave, Ike, Jake, and Jim, and his sister Patricia Norris.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025, at St. Paul Presbyterian Church, 6426 Merle Hay Road, Johnston, IA, with a reception to follow.

Met Bob thirty years ago on an inter-faith human-rights delegation to Rabinal , Guatemala. An amazing trip, accompanying and advocating for indigenous people that had experienced a tragic massacre in the early eighties. I'm sure each participant on that delegation had mixed motives for making that trip, and making and perhaps maintaining connections to the people there. Didn't know Bob was a Presbyterian pastor at the time. Later discovered that he had also visited the Berlin, Usulutan area of El Salvador to bring them solar lighting. An area i once visited as well... it's in a relatively mountainous area conducive to growing coffee.
Perhaps he"s taking a needed rest now and sitting with His Lord and Savior and ironing out what a fair price for a cup of coffee (or banana) should be. We hope Bob is "Listo para Cristo".
