Richard "Dick" W. Hall

Richard “Dick” Wayne Hall, age 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Dick was born March 24, 1934, in Des Moines, Iowa to William Dale Hall and Martha Belle (Walter) Hall. Dick worked as a Railroad Conductor and Switchman, retiring in 1987 from the Rock Island/Chicago Northwestern Railroad after 30 years and 3 months. He was also the President of Hall Brothers, Inc.

Dick met the love of his life, Harriett Lee Juline in 1963, and they were married in 1965. They loved traveling together and spent over 20 years wintering in South Padre Island. They went everywhere together and were always up for a new adventure or destination. When he wasn’t wintering, you could always find him outside in his yard, tinkering and feeding the squirrels. He always had a building project started and plans for the next one in his mind. He was personable and would always stop and visit with his neighbors.

Dick was a man of varied interests and endless dedication to service. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 370, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine (member of the Provost Guard), Royal Order of the Jester Court 46, and a lifetime member of the Des Moines Elks Club 98. He served four terms on the Pleasant Hill City Council and was a founding member of the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his son, Ronald Hall; daughter, Jeri (John) Stoffel; daughter-in-law, Pam Martin; grandchildren, Ryan (Ashley) Hall, Jessica Hall, Tyler Townsend, and Shawnna (Tim) Kost; great-grandchildren, Addyson, Lilyan, Bella, Lily, Jestin, Evelyn, and Gatlin; siblings, Charles (Judy) Hall, Jerry (Carole) Hall, and Betty (Rodger) Rice; and many other loving family members and friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Harriett Hall; son, Johnny Hall; son, Steven “Duff” Martin; parents, William and Martha Hall; and brothers, Russell, Dale, Norman, Melvin, and Robert Hall.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2026. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 2, 2026, and will be followed by a luncheon. Services will conclude with burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Elks Lodge, Shriners, or Alzheimer’s Association.
