Roberta L. Hayworth

Roberta Louise (Norman) Hayworth, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, July 25, 2025.

Roberta was born May 16, 1933, to Ralph and Zolla Norman in Osceola, Iowa. She was an Iowa Girl through and through. Roberta had a 28-year career in food service for the Des Moines Public Schools. She also sold tickets at the Iowa State Fair for many summers.

Roberta was a longtime member of Grant Park Christian Church where she held many positions over the years. She was a current member of Altoona Christian Church. She was an Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan. She was an excellent cook and baker, and enjoyed gardening and flowers.

She is survived by her husband of 74 years, James Hayworth; sons, Gary (Terri) Hayworth and Kelly (Nancy) Hayworth; grandchildren, Stephanie (Dave) Daughton, Samantha (Shaun) Schaff, Lucas (Anjel) Hayworth, Adam (Ashley) Hayworth, Caleb Hayworth, Jacob Hayworth, and Michael (Cassidy) Hayworth; great-grandchildren, Devin (Jeals) Brines, Kristin Schaff, Elsa Schaff, Charlie Hayworth, Carter Hayworth, Liam Hayworth, Jaxon Hayworth, Evelynn Hayworth, and Hayden Hayworth; sister, Anita (Don) Randol; and many nieces, nephews, other extended family, and many friends.

Roberta was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Hayworth; parents, Ralph and Zolla Norman; sisters, Marion Hayworth and Marjorie Harlan; and her brother, Robert Norman.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2025, also at Hamilton’s, and will conclude with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. There will then be a luncheon at Altoona Christian Church.
