Richard Lowery Sr.

Richard Lowery Sr., 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 7, 2026.

Richard was born January 13, 1942, in Moran, Iowa to Harry Sr. and Flora (Campbell) Lowery. Richard was very family oriented and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family. He loved to cook and tell stories. Richard enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting and building things. He was a sports fan and a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Richard was an entrepreneur and business owner. He owned night clubs, real estate, and most recently retired from Lowery’s Department Store. He also worked in management for Sears and assisted with fundraising for the Police Officer’s Association.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cassandra; children, Richard Lowery Jr., Claudette Cook, Yvonne (Ernest) Johnson, Clyde (Christine) McGregor, Monica (Lamont) Smith, LaCleve (Meg) Moon, and LaDondra Moon; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Sr. and Flora Lowery and his siblings, LaVan Lowery, John “Jack” Lowery Sr., Winifred E. Propps, William Lowery, Harry A. Lowery Jr., Flora Mae Wagner, Frank E. Lowery Sr., Clifford Lowery Sr., and Minnie C. Lowery-Jackson.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2026, also at Hamilton’s. We will leave in procession for Glendale Cemetery at 12:00 P.m.
