Richard Lowery Sr.

Richard Lowery Sr., 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 7, 2026.

Richard was born January 13, 1942, in Moran, Iowa to Harry Sr. and Flora (Campbell) Lowery. Richard was very family oriented and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family. He loved to cook and tell stories. Richard enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting and building things. He was a sports fan and a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Richard was an entrepreneur and business owner. He owned night clubs, real estate, and most recently retired from Lowery’s Department Store. He also worked in management for Sears and assisted with fundraising for the Police Officer’s Association.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cassandra; children, Richard Lowery Jr., Claudette, Yvonne (Ernest) Johnson, Clyde (Christine) McGregor, Monica (Lamont) Smith, LaCleve (Meg) Moon, and LaDondra Moon; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2026, also at Hamilton’s, and will be followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.
