We were teenagers when we met, and we just clicked. Movies, music, comic books. The usual stuff—though somehow not in the usual ways. He would debate passionately about silly things as much as things that mattered more, and always challenged me to sharpen my thoughts, to push myself. For most of our lives distance separated us, but that never seemed to matter, and we always picked up right where we left off. Randy was a truly great friend to me, solid and dependable, but also full of surprises. He was insightful, kind, ready with a laugh, right more often than I usually wanted to admit, and I miss him terribly. My warmest thoughts to the family he leaves behind.

Randy was a great friend to me. His acid wit always made me laugh (and think). I would have trusted him with my life. I will miss watching Criterion movies with him, playing poker, and his commentary about the world. He was a fine human being and I will miss him very much.
