Ray Chapman

Raymond Eugene Chapman,72, passed away February 19, 2026.

He was born September 10, 1953 in Des Moines, Iowa to his parents, Austin and Katheryn Chapman. He attended a two-room school house in Herold, Iowa now Camp Dodge until he was in 8th grade. He then went to Johnston Community Schools and graduated from Johnson High School. In High School, Ray was able to travel to Europe with his concert choir his senior year. Ray married the love of his life Linda on March 16, 1979 and they had 46 wonderful years together.

Ray was a hard worker and worked in commercial sales for much of his life. He enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, guns, and he never met a stranger. Ray will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Chapman; sister, Joy Jordan; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Katheryn Chapman; infant brother, Harold Chapman; and sister, Wanda Lamb.

Family will greet friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2025 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Raymond will be laid to rest at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.
