Reva Marie Amundson

Reva Marie Amundson, 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, October 10, 2025, in Winterset, Iowa. Services will be held at Des Moines Fellowship, 950 35th Street in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday October 18, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Family will greet friends following the service.

Born on May 2, 1957, to Roger and Rose Mapel, Reva was the oldest of five girls. The family lived in many places while growing up, but Reva’s favorite place was Colorado where she enjoyed horseback riding and participating in barrel racing in the rodeo. When Reva moved to Iowa she attended Lincoln High School in Des Moines, and while there, she ran track and became a state record holder in the 400-meter dash. In addition, she met the love of her life, Andy Amundson, they were married in 1977 and together they raised two children. Reva enjoyed teaching her children, crafting, baking, gardening, road trips, camping and being outdoors. For many years Reva was very active at her church, Des Moines Fellowship, where she taught Sunday school, helped in the kitchen, and made life-long friends. She loved the Lord and committed her life to following Jesus. Reva loved children and had a big heart for those in need - her home was always open to family and friends. Every year she enjoyed hosting a big family Christmas party at her home.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Andy Amundson; her children, Andrea (Vaughn) Meader, and Nathan (Jessica) Amundson; her sisters, Lu Ann Crees (Emily), Barb Mapel (Holly), and Sonnie (Bruce) Roberts; her six grandchildren, Noah Meader, Gabe Meader, Vivienne Meader, Olavur Amundson, Gunnar Amundson and Aurora Amundson; her nieces and nephews, Tommy, Jeni, Taylor, Jackson, Victoria, Teresa, and Mikey; along with several cousins.

Reva was preceded in death by her grandparents, Stanley and Alice Church; her parents, Roger Mapel and Rose Pincus; her sisters, Diana and Karla Mapel; and children, Matthew and Daniel Amundson.
