Bob Braman

Robert Alvin Braman, Jr., 78, passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on October 16, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa, he was the son of Robert Sr. and Essie “Ruth” (Dicks) Braman.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Robert rarely missed a game—whether it was on television or in person cheering on his grandkids and he had a special place in his heart for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved solving New York Times crossword puzzles and had a passion for trivia that made him the go-to teammate in any quiz night. Robert graduated from Lincoln High School, where he stood out as a Des Moines city track champion. After high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969, where he was part of a Mechanized Infantry Unit stationed in Germany. More than anything, Robert was devoted to his family. He loved deeply and without reservation—especially his wife, Cheri, his daughters, his grandchildren – who he absolutely adored, his extended family, and his dog Maxi, who was never far from his side and brought him great joy.

Robert is survived by his daughters, Antonia Rees and Becky (Zac) Bollinger; his cherished grandchildren, Gabe (Taylor) Rees, Hannah Rees, Caleb Bollinger, Abby (Landen) Walker, Maddy Bollinger, Malachi Bollinger, and Bailey Bollinger; his siblings, Boyd (Jan) Braman and Bette (John) Maki; his sister-in-law, Kim (Kirk) Witlatch; his brother-in-law, Kevin (Maggie) Lambi; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Shireen “Cheri” Braman; and his brothers, David and Jim Braman.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Salvation Army Church, 1330 6th Avenue Unit 1326, Des Moines, followed by a committal service at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines.
