Rosalee W. Johnston

Rosalee Wilma Johnston, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at her home in Pleasant Hill.
Rosalee was born January 2, 1945, in Osceola, Iowa to Ritchie and Wilma (Placek) Sklenar. She graduated from high school in 1963 and was a proud Clarke County Warrior. She met Richard Johnston in Des Moines, Iowa and they were married on July 17, 1965.
Rosalee worked for Sears and Principal simultaneously. She then worked for Lewis Systems and finally for Menards. She enjoyed bowling and being a part of the “Thursday Morning Coffee League”. She was very talented at knitting and crocheting, and she enjoyed spending time in her garden.
She is survived by her children, Robin (Jay) Wieland and Rob (Sara) Johnston; grandchildren, Casey Johnston, Grace, Joey and Ryan Wieland; great-grandchildren, Charlee, Casey James Jr., Briley, Violet and Zoey Johnston; sister, Marlene Mogle; and sister-in-law, Karla Finn.
Rosalee was preceded in death by her husband, Richard R. Johnston; grandson, Richard M. Johnston; and her parents, Ritchie and Wilma Sklenar.
Services will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed by funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Rosalee’s bowling league. Please make check payable to Thursday Morning Coffee League.

Rosalee and I first met as children in our farming neighborhood and attended county schools together. We graduated from high school together. Rosalee was always friendly and fun to be around. My condolences to her family.
