Rosemary Bonanno
June 13, 1966 — June 14, 2026
Rosemary Ann Bonanno, 60, of West Des Moines, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Harmony West Des Moines. She was born June 13, 1966 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Rose (Rivera) and James Bonanno.
Rosemary attended St Anthony Elementary School and graduated from Dowling High School in 1984. Rosemary was an administrative assistant for the Iowa Board of Cosmetology.
Rosemary loved her family deeply, especially her son Joey. She delighted in spoiling her niece and nephews whenever she could. She enjoyed gardening, soaking up the sun, cheering on Iowa State Football, and watching Brock Purdy play on Sundays in the NFL. She loved family birthdays and all holidays, especially Christmas. No Christmas was complete without Rosemary’s famous Italian cookies.
Rosemary was an avid Hallmark Channel fan and could always be counted on to know exactly how the movie would end… and still enjoy every minute of it.
Despite the challenges of living with multiple sclerosis, Rosemary’s love for her family, her sense of humor, and her appreciation for life’s simple joys never wavered. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her father, James Bonanno.
She is survived by her mother, Rose Bonanno; son, Joseph Baldwin; siblings, Anthony (Susan) Bonanno, Charles (Wil Mcerlean) Bonanno, and Alisa Bonanno; and a host of extended family members and friends.
The family will greet friends from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026, at St. Anthony Catholic Church; 15 Indianola Road, Des Moines. A funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the church.
Those wishing to honor Rosemary’s memory may make a memorial contribution to the family.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Harmony West Des Moines and Suncrest Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Rosemary.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Rosemary's passing. We went to high school together and I will always remember her as a special friend.
She had the most beautiful eyes and the most hilarious sense of humor. She'd get me started laughing in the school library and I'd draw the terrifying wrath of Sister - which usually made us laugh even harder.
Her family is in my thoughts. Please know that she is remembered with so much fondness and love. She was a bright light that now shines with the stars. Godspeed, Rosemary. You will be missed.

Rosemary I know your mom (Rose) has a great love for you as well as your brothers, sister, son and extended family.
Our hearts have been broken since the day GOD called you back to him. Our memories are our lasting treasure which we hold in our hearts as our tears continue to flow for you. You're in our thoughts everyday, and that's how it will always be. Rosemary we know you were welcomed into heaven by many family members and you have seen GODs face, that gives us comfort in this life.
The day that GOD calls for us to return to him will be the day we will be relieved of all the pain we felt and sorry for the loss of you. We will cross the veil into heaven and see your beautiful spirit and all the people we love.
For us that met you as a little girl in our home we will always remember you as our little sister with a big smile, a precious giggles and a joy to our lives. You are in Heaven now, but you'll always be with us.

To Rosemary’s Family:
I was shocked to hear that Rosemary had died! The memories, pictures, and talks between Rosemary and Claire and with their other friends take me back in time- - a time when life was simple, innocent and carefree as I watched the girls have so much fun together. I remember the time when a half dozen friends blew up balloons and put them under their tee shirts, strutting around the yard! The fun birthday parties, the great pictures taken out in the yard, when Claire was taking a photography class, and I marveled as they slowly grew from childhood into mature adults!
Now, I’m so sad that Rosemary and Claire have both died less than a year apart at 59 and barely 60 years of age!!! Thankfully, they both had a full life, accomplished much and were loved by so many in their short life! May Our Lord in His mercy and goodness, grant her eternal rest in heaven.
Rosemary, and kids: I scheduled 2 friends over to my house today, and I asked my twins, Frankie and Teresa to represent our family. Slowly the pain you are feeling now will lessen, but never go away. You lost a beautiful, talented daughter! I’m SO sorry!
My love and prayers. Ellen Celsi
