Service Details

Shawn Alan Mouzakis
of Des Moines, Iowa

Taken far too soon, Shawn suffered a hemorrhagic stroke and passed away on April 30, 2025, forever leaving his mark in this world. He was born the son of Joan (Wilkinson) Ammons and John Mouzakis on March 15, 1986, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Shawn took pride in his role as a truck driver, currently working for Saia LTL Freight. It made him proud that he could carry on the family tradition, dating back to his great-grandfather. His co-workers knew any time Shawn was in the building. You could hear him from the other room cracking a joke and making people laugh. One of his many strengths was being able to make friends with everyone he met. Stranger was not in Shawn’s vocabulary.

For the past 5 years, Shawn spent most of his weekends at the race track, fixing up his car and competing in races. He may not have won many races, but the joy racing brought him made it all worthwhile. Shawn was also passionate about sports, particularly football. He cheered for the Iowa State Cyclones, and it seems like he was an avid KC Chiefs fan since the day he could walk. Go Chiefs!

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving parents, Joan and Henry Ammons, John and Daphne Mouzakis; his siblings Brad Mouzakis, Meghan Ammons, and Kailee Ammons; and his grandma Lorene Mouzakis. His favorite aunts and uncles, along with his favorite cousins, all held a special place in his heart. He valued family and never missed an opportunity to gather and create memories.

Shawn was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Edgar and Joan Wilkinson, Ron and Oneta Ammons, and John Mouzakis Sr.

Family will greet guests on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Ss John and Paul Catholic Church, 1401 1st Ave. South, Altoona, Iowa.
