Shawn Scoville
February 19, 1960 — November 12, 2025
Shawn Scoville
of Des Moines, Iowa
Shawn Scoville, 65, was surrounded with love and family when he went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. He was born on February 19, 1960, in Glens Falls, New York, son of Louis and Rita Scoville, and spent many of his years living in Massachusetts.
Shawn provided service to the community through much of his working career in nursing and security services, as well as a short time in restaurants where he met his second wife. He enjoyed telling others about the times he worked at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, as well as for Mr. Kraft and the New England Patriots, along with many other stories. He was a fantastic story teller and always filled the silence with his words. Some of Shawn's greatest stories were of his children (including stepchildren) and how proud he was of who they have become; the best ones were of his grandchildren. He bragged and shared pictures of all of his grandchildren whom he absolutely loved with his whole heart.
Shawn read his bible every day and recently found "home" at Eternity Church in Johnston, IA. He enjoyed cooking until his wife, Jenica, made it better, but loved to eat anything she made. If you didn't find him watching his shows, movies, reading a book, or listening to music, he was napping or enjoying one of his many hobbies. Shawn collected coins, paper money, baseball cards, diecast cars, and Magic cards. He also enjoyed playing Xbox video games and WOW. Shawn was also an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the New England Patriots, the Boston Bruins, the Boston Celtics, the New York Yankees, and Notre Dame. After moving to Iowa, he also rooted for the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. (He did his research.)
Those here to keep Shawn's memory alive include his loving wife Jenica; children, Michael Scoville, Kristen (Ryan) Munns, Justice (Aaron) Bendixen, and Caleb (Jennifer) McDaniel; grandchildren, Matilda, Sydney, Spencer, and Elijah; sister Deborah Haynes; brother Noel Scoville; brother-in-law, Scott Bendixen and Joe (Brooke) Gahman; sister-in-law Amie (Jon) Schuler; father-in-law Brett (Kim) Bendixen; fur babies, Khaleesi, Arya, Winter, and JoJo; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Shawn was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia Scoville; grandchildren, Lily and Pennie; parents, Louis and Rita; siblings, Sharon and Michael; and mother-in-law, Robyn Bendixen.
A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 1, 2025 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa. A short prayer service will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by a time of fellowship.
There will be a second celebration of life or service in Massachusetts for Shawn at a later date.
