Sherry was born in Cherokee, Iowa, on August 20, 1952, to Berniece and Floyd Stewart. She graduated from Aurelia High School and then attended Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Missouri. Sherry earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Iowa State University in 1974. She graduated from Drake University with her Master’s degree in Business Administration.
Sherry worked for UnityPoint Health Des Moines for over 40 years. During her tenure, Sherry held many positions at the hospitals. Her long-term position was the Executive Director of Properties and Facilities Development. She was very proud to have led the design and construction of Methodist West Hospital. Sherry was a trailblazer as a female in the construction field. She also won the prestigious “Making a Difference Award” at UnityPoint Health. She always shared her love for the work she did and the people she worked with inside and outside the organization. Sherry’s gift of design is still very much a part of all the UnityPoint Health Des Moines hospitals.
In her free time, Sherry’s passion was traveling. She sailed on many cruises and took an extended world cruise for four months. She also enjoyed decorating, time with her friends, and treasured her dog, Keesha, who preceded her in death.
Sherry was so dedicated to her family. Sherry would drive to northwest Iowa many weekends to spend time with her loved ones. Sherry would visit her parents, brother Denny, and her aunt Verniece making sure that their needs were being met when each of them were struggling with their own declining health issues.
Sherry is survived by her brother, Steve (Priscella) Stewart, family members and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Denny Stewart.
Sherry had a deep faith and shared her generosity with many charities and people. Memorials may be directed to UnityPoint Health Foundation Eyerly Ball or to Hope Ministries Center for Women and Children.
