Steven Michael Mayo

Steven Michael Mayo, 65, passed away on January 14, 2024. He was born in Des Moines, IA on June 16, 1958 to Joyce (Bates) and Merrill Mayo. He graduated from North High School in 1976 and married Cynthia Mayo on June 12, 1982. The couple divorced in May of 2017.

Steve is the father of three, and has two grandkids. He was an outdoor enthusiast, and loved camping, fishing, and boating. He loved taking his kids inner tubing on Saylorville Lake, camping at Cherry Glenn, and waterskiing with friends on the Des Moines River. Steve could always be found outside on Sunday mornings, listening to blues music and finding some sort of task to do for the day. His favorite memories included the annual family vacation to Branson, attending the Iowa State Fair, and spending time with his kids and the family pets. Steve had a great sense humor, and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his children, Clifford Lyle Mayo (Tracy) of Virginia, Rose Helena Mayo (Joseph) of New York, New York, and Ariana Victoria Mayo (Joseph) of St. Charles, Iowa; and his granddaughter, Isadore Rose Mayo (5) and grandson, Kieran Clifford Mayo (2).

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Merrill Mayo; his mother, Joyce Mueller; his step-father, Ben Mueller; and sisters, Victoria Mayo and Melanie Mayo.

An open house to celebrate Steve’s life will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Lake View Recreational Center at Saylorville Lake.
