Susan J. Ramsey (Susie) of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the Kavanaugh House, EveryStep Hospice Care. Susie was born on January 8, 1942 to her parents, Curtis and Carol Binns. She graduated from DeSoto High School in 1960 where she participated in choir, band, played six on six girls’ basketball as a guard and softball as a catcher. She loved to sing with her deep, rich, alto range and harmony and was in choir at school and church.

Susie met Glen Ramsey during the summer after her junior year at DeSoto in 1959. One of their first big dates was on the dance floor of the Val Air Ballroom dancing to the Guy Lombardo Big Band where they fell in love. Susie attended Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Missouri and completed her freshman year. She married Glen Ramsey on June 4, 1961. They settled in Earlham, Iowa and later Susie became a stay-at-home mom to raise her two sons, James and Donald. Susie was a volunteer Sunday School teacher at Earlham Friends Church. Education was especially important to her, so she decided to go back to school and enrolled at the University of Northern Iowa. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Family Services with a Certificate of Gerontology in 1986 and received her Masters in Counseling in 1988. She became a Counselor at Orchard Place in Des Moines, Iowa.

Susie was an enthusiastic follower of God, which allowed her to touch many lives through her welcoming presence. Most recently Susie has lived at the Maplewood Village Condos in Ankeny, Iowa. She enjoyed meeting with her fellow residents and her close friend group. She loved to work in her garden, growing vegetables and her favorite, strawberries. Susie was a member of the Ankeny United Methodist Church for many years and has always been devoted to Bible study, the choir productions and participating in the adult Sunday School class.

Susie will be deeply missed by her family, including her sons, James Hugh Ramsey (Kristi) of Waukee, Iowa and Donald Curtis Ramsey (Holly) of Puyallup, Washington. Her grandchildren include, Zachary James Ramsey (Randi) of Urbandale, Iowa, Madison Mariah Ramsey (Mitchell Mast) of Ames, Iowa, Nathan Daniel Ramsey and Thomas Henry Ramsey of Puyallup, Washington. She has two great-grandchildren, Lilith, daughter of Zachary and Randi, and Maverick, son of Madison and Mitchell. Her sister, Kathy Stonehocker lives in Earlham, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen, father and mother, Curtis and Carol Binns and her sister, Betty Geary.

Funeral services will take place at Ankeny First United Church, 206 SW Walnut St, Ankeny, Iowa at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2025 with visitation one hour prior at 10:00 a.m. with a luncheon at the church following the church service. Burial will take place at Earlham Cemetery following the luncheon.
