Troy Allen Freeborn, 57, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, due to cardiac arrest.

Troy was born June 7, 1968, in Des Moines, Iowa to Lloyd and Dixie Freeborn.

His family was his greatest joy and he valued the time spent with them. He kept in touch with everyone and was very knowledgeable of his family history. Troy worked in construction and took great pride in his work. He was well respected and won numerous awards.

Troy loved the outdoors and his happy place was the family land in St. Charles where he would camp and hunt. He enjoyed bow hunting for deer and took trips to visit family friends in Idaho for twenty years, during which he would elk hunt. Troy spent many happy hours fishing at Pine Lake, Waterworks, and Thomas Mitchell Park. Sunday dinners at his mother, Dixie’s were a weekly family tradition. Troy will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Grace Freeborn and Spencer Freeborn; parents, Dixie and Lloyd Freeborn; brother and sister-in-law, Cory and Darcy Freeborn; as well as his niece and nephews, and great-niece and nephews.

Troy was preceded in death by his grandmother, Norma Rivas and his great-grandmother, Marvel Spencer “Grandma Piggy”, who he cherished, and treasured the blankets they made for him. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter and Virginia Freeborn.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
