Service Details

Thomas Allan Weisbrod, 90, passed away June 29, 2025, at Walnut Ridge Gables Care Center in Clive. Services will be held Monday, July 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 10395 University Avenue in Clive, Iowa with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 8 at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. The service will be livestreamed.

Tom was born on August 24, 1934, to Louis L. and Pearl Genevieve (Iverson) Weisbrod in Montevideo, Minnesota. He graduated from Montevideo High School and went on to attend the University of Minnesota, where he played football as a middle linebacker for two years.

In 1954, Tom enlisted in the Naval Reserves and proudly served in the U.S. Navy until 1956. Upon returning to Minnesota, he married the love of his life, Nancy Ann Allan, on November 9, 1956. Tom completed his college education and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business before beginning a long and fulfilling career with Northwestern Bell, where he worked until his retirement in 1991.

Tom had a deep love for the outdoors and family life, spending summers at their Deerwood, Minnesota lake cabin. He and Nancy shared a passion for travel, exploring the U.S. with their children and later seeing the world together, visiting countries including Russia, Greece, Austria, and the British Isles.

A man of many interests, Tom enjoyed building and refinishing furniture, snow skiing, well into his 70s, and cheering on his favorite sports teams — particularly Iowa State women’s basketball and football, the Minnesota Vikings, his Golden Gophers, and the Twins. His commitment to service was evident through his active involvement with Faith Lutheran Church, the West Des Moines Kiwanis, and his 20 years of volunteer driving for LifeServe Blood Center. In recognition of his dedication, Tom was honored with the Governor’s Volunteer Award in 2018.

Tom especially treasured time with his grandchildren, creating lasting memories every summer at the lake — boating, swimming, and fishing. He will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to his family and community.

Tom is survived by his children, Susan (Michael) Ahlers and Douglas (Julie) Weisbrod; grandchildren, Rebecca, Kathryn and Joseph Ahlers, Ian and Andrew Weisbrod, and Cailee Stangl; and very special friend, Ruth Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy; sister, Sandra Johnson; and his grandson, David Michael Ahlers.

Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church in loving memory of Tom. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
