Ty Joseph Yohe
December 18, 1970 — February 23, 2026
Ty Joseph Yohe, born December 18, 1970, in East Chicago, Indiana, passed away quietly at home in Des Moines, Iowa on February 23, 2026. Ty was a cherished friend to many and a devoted father whose greatest pride and joy was his daughter, Nadia. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him and warmly remembered for his generous spirit, easy smile, and the friendships he carried throughout his life.
Ty’s lifelong love of sports began while growing up in Crown Point, Indiana. He later attended Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines, Iowa, where he excelled in both baseball and football. A talented pitcher, he played varsity baseball beginning his sophomore year and helped lead his team to back-to-back State Championships during his junior and senior seasons. In recognition of his performance, he was honored as a First Team All-State Pitcher.
His success continued on the football field. During his junior year, the team finished as State Championship runners-up, and in his senior year they advanced to the Second Round of the State Playoffs. Ty was recognized for his leadership and athletic ability as a 4A All-Metro and First Team All-State Quarterback in 1988.
After graduating from Dowling Catholic, Ty attended Iowa State University, where he played football as a backup quarterback from 1989 to 1993 and earned a degree in Economics. The friendships he formed with teammates during those years remained an important part of his life.
Ty’s passion for football even carried him overseas. He spent time in Barcelona, Spain, playing American football for the Barcelona Boxers in La Liga Española de Fútbol Americano. In his first season he had the special opportunity to play alongside his beloved brother Tom Yohe, helping the team reach the Spanish Bowl as runners-up. In a later season he returned to the team with his longtime friend John Vacco as they advanced to the Spanish Bowl playoffs.
Sports remained central to Ty’s life and career. For more than 25 years, he worked with Fox Sports as a FoxBox operator, traveling widely and contributing to broadcasts across the country. It was work he loved deeply, and he often said he had “the best job in the world.” The role also allowed him to work alongside his brother Tommy and build lasting friendships with colleagues and crews along the way.
Above all, Ty’s greatest joy was his daughter Nadia, who brought immeasurable light into his life. He loved her deeply and took immense pride in the remarkable young person she is becoming. They shared a special bond and a warm, generous spirit that touched everyone around them.
Ty is survived by his beloved daughter, Nadia Yohe; his former spouse, Allison Yohe (Rand) of Des Moines, Iowa; his aunt, Carolyn Wisdom (Warren) of San Diego, California; uncle, Stephen Lazar (Michael Grazer) of San Francisco, California; and aunt, Muriel Lazar of Northbrook, Illinois. He also leaves behind many cousins, extended family members, and dear friends, including Sheri Shagory, who shared a special place in his life.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Yohe (Lazar); his father, Tom Yohe; his brother, Tommy Yohe; his uncle, Zack Lazar; and his grandparents.
