Vaughny Jesse Dykes
September 03, 1946 — May 07, 2026
Vaughny Jesse Dykes, 79, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026. He was born on September 3, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa to Mary Waddell and Eugene Dykes. He grew up “wild and crazy” and youngest of four children born into a beautiful, caring, and wonderful home. After high school he served in the Navy as a barber, then became a bricklayer, construction worker, and retired as self-employed. He enjoyed working on cars in his garage, watching car shows and westerns on TV as loud as possible, and “going for a drive”. He was loved by many and known for his snide sense of humor, witty comments, and always saying, “I don’t want to live a boring life.” May he “finally rest” in peace in the arms of his loving parents again. He is survived by his daughter, Kelly (James) Kramer; sister, Mary Lou Toomey; partner, Tammy Fuller; as well as many many loving friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Donnie S., his parents, siblings, and many friends. A celebration of life will be planned in the near future. Memorial donations may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Please feel free to leave condolences and stories through the Messages tab here.
