Vicky Ann Sande

Vicky Sande, 74, passed away Tuesday July 8, 2025 at her home in Johnston, Iowa. Born in Centerville, Iowa to Lulu "Kathryn" (Bingamin) and Clyde Ashby on August 21, 1950, Vicky lived a life full of love, laughter, and compassion.

She graduated from Centerville High School where she was actively involved in drill team, Future Business Leaders of America, and served as a class officer. Vicky went on to work in state government. She worked as the governor's secretary and later at Iowa Workforce Development. Vicky retired in 2013.

On August 24, 1974, Vicky married the love of her life, David Sande. Together they raised their family in Roland, Iowa and later Urbandale, Iowa so Vicky could enjoy the perks of a larger city. Vicky always joked the farm life was not for her.

Vicky found great joy in being part of her Bunco group, regularly gathering to socialize and enjoy the dice game. Her social nature extended the game table. She loved exploring new restaurants, shops, and movies. She also looked forward to the annual Witches Night Out with friends, where she proudly designed her own witch's hat and decorated pumpkins with flair. Vicky was also a member of PEO and served as a guard for her local chapter.

Family was the heart of Vicky's world. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, attending all their games and school concerts. They were the light of her life and her greatest joy. Vicky never missed a chance to visit family in Kansas City, especially for craft fair days with her brother Rick.

Vicky had a deep and enduring love for dogs. Throughout her life, her home was never without at least one canine companion - often several, many of them being rescues. Her affection extended to every dog she met, and her spirit made her a friend to them all.

No gathering felt complete without Vicky's famous sugar cookies. Whether it was a holiday or a casual get-together, Vicky always had a cookie cutter to fit the theme. Each Christmas was spent decorating cookies with her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews - creating sweet memories to last a lifetime.

Vicky is survived by her son, Jason (Katelyn) Sande; daughter Heather Sande; grandchildren, Payton and Landon Sande; brothers, Rick Ashby and Mike Ashby; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her beloved dog, Polly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kathryn and Karol Gard; parents, Mary and Clyde Ashby; and husband, David Sande.

A celebration of life visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 9, 2025 at Giovannetti Shelter at Walker Johnston Park, 9000 Douglas Ave in Urbandale, Iowa.
