Victor "Vic" Mockerman

The loving arms of our Lord reclaimed Vic Mockerman, his faithful servant, on August 2, 2026 at his home in Bensenville, Illinois, in his 94th year of life. Born in Tescott, Kansas, on February 2, 1932 to Adam and Josephine (Meurisse) Mockerman. He was preceded in death by all of his siblings, Rose, Linford, Lester and, Della. He was a smalltown country boy and held onto those roots all of his life.

Enlisting in the Army at 19, he fought bravely for our country on the front lines in the Korean War at Heartbreak Ridge.

He met Jeanne through an Army buddy (her cousin, Tony DeCarlo). Upon discharge he had already bought her a wedding ring. The couple was married on April 17, 1955 and remained in love for 49 years. They are the parents of Debbie and Jeff Mockerman.

He worked at the Firestone plant in Des Moines for 36 years. Shortly after retirement they moved to Apache Junction, Arizona, where friends were made and wonderful memories were created. He was a jack of all trades—a gunsmith, a jewelry designer, billiards master, woodworker, electrical guru—who loved puzzles, playing “hand and foot” cards and always helping others.

Other than his family, his proudest accomplishment was becoming ordained as a minister in 1999. He and Jeanne created Changing Hearts Ministries which distributed thousands of Bibles to the public, including special Bibles for firefighters, policemen, military, and especially children’s Bibles. Countless hearts were changed by the love and words they shared with others.

Vic has been a big part of the Bridgeway Retirement Center family in Bensenville, Illinois, for 20 plus years serving communion and sharing sermons. He loved his Lord and Savior!

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Josephine Mockerman; his wife, Jeanne of 49 years; his son, Jeffrey; and his siblings Rose, Linford, Lester and Della. He leaves behind his daughter, Debbie (Dennis M.) Kerns of Wapello, Iowa; two grandsons, Christopher (Ali) Ueltschy of Wapello and Adam (Xavier) Ueltschy of Columbia, Missouri; a step-granddaughter, Dawn Nordin of Collierville, Tennessee; one bonus granddaughter, Amanda; and two great-grandchildren, 17-year-old Aiden and 12-year-old Kahlan Ueltschy of Wapello, Iowa. He is also survived by his later-in-life partner, Myrna Caponigro. He was blessed to fall in love twice in one lifetime. His surviving family also includes many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street in Des Moines, Iowa. Vic will be laid to rest with military honors following the service at Glendale Cemetery.
