William Bentley Roberts, 90, passed away at home in his loving wife’s arms on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

Bill was born January 25, 1935, in Des Moines, Iowa and lived many years in Norwalk. He graduated from Norwalk High School in 1953. Bill worked at Meredith for one year, then enlisted in the U. S. Navy. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving four years from 1954–1958. In September of 2014, Bill was invited to go on the Honor Flight to Washington D. C. He enjoyed it very much and to spend time with other veterans, sharing many stories and friendships.

After Bill left the military, he worked many jobs until 1967, when he was hired by the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier. He was a member of NALC Local #352. Bill retired from the USPS in October of 1992. He then later worked at Home Loan Bank, retiring again at 70 years of age. He was a lifelong golfer and loved time with his golfing buddies. He enjoyed his retirement years.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Carolyn; son, Bill R. (Sheri); daughter, Pam (Chris Fillman) Roberts; three grandsons, Bill, Tyler (Annette), and Jordan (Shelbi); three great-grandchildren, Quinn, Adeline, and Samuel; and a new great-grandbaby arriving in September.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Madeline and Ralph Henry; father, Syd A. Roberts; sisters, Rose Marie Douglas and Jennie Douglas; baby brother, Sonny; and recently his grandson, Dylan Roberts.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2025, also at Hamilton’s, and will conclude with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery, military honors provided by the
U. S. Navy Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Every Step Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Bill’s name.
