Service Details

Bill Buising, 88, beloved husband and father passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Bill was born September 14, 1936, to Ed and Ella Buising in Holdrege, Nebraska. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marcia Buising; sister, Patricia (John) Sloan; daughter, Susan; son, Jeff (Sara), daughter-in-law, Sherri; three grandchildren, Ashley (Jake), Chloe, and Drew; and great-grandchild, Carson.

Bill spent his childhood in Nebraska and Mason City, Iowa, before moving to Des Moines, Iowa for his most formative years. He was athletic, playing and excelling in as many sports as he could fit in. He attended Roosevelt High School and played with some of his life-long friends celebrating their 1954 State Football Championship every year at Noah’s Ark. He attended the University of Iowa where he met the love of his life, Marcia. He served his country in the Navy.

Bill came to know his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, nurturing his and his family’s relationship with the Lord in earlier years at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, and over the last couple of decades at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines.

He was a tough, hardworking, gentle giant. Bill and his brother successfully grew a food brokerage business that their parents started. This allowed him, his brother and their wives to pursue one of their life’s great passions, golf. Bill enjoyed a lot of golf and time with family and friends at the Des Moines Golf and Country Club where he was a lifetime member and served the club in various roles. During the retirement years, winters saw Bill and Marcia taking their love of golf and community to their home at The Landings in Savannah, GA.

Nothing was more important to Bill than his wife and family. Family fun night on Fridays, Valley Tiger and Iowa football games, tailgates with friends and family, and travel were some of his favorites. Many of the families’ best memories were made on vacations in California, Florida and at the Des Moines YMCA Family Camp in Boone, Iowa. Once his grandkids arrived, Bill’s softer and loving side shined brighter than ever.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Ella Buising; his brother, Bob; and his beloved first son, Scott.
