William "Bill" Ellis

William “Bill” Howard Ellis, 82, passed away August 30, 2025 at MercyOne Medical Center.

Bill was born January 18, 1943, to Robert and Elizabeth (Campbell) Ellis in Des Moines. On April 4, 1964, he married Sandra Streeby in Eldon, Iowa. Bill proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He worked for Iowa Power and Light, now known as MidAmerican Energy until 2003. Bill then went to work for Bradshaw Law Firm until his retirement in 2013. He served as a volunteer fireman for the City of Urbandale for many years. Bill was an active member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, (I.O.O.F.), serving as Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Iowa during 2007 - 2008. He was also an active member of Knox Presbyterian Church. Bill enjoyed being a Boy Scout leader while his sons were growing up. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and model railroading.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sandra Ellis; daughter, Christine (Josh) Findlay; sons, Jon Ellis and Tim (Jen Cunningham) Ellis; sisters, Barbara Ellis Burke and Elizabeth Ellis Olson; and a host of extended family and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth Ellis; his two older brothers, Robert and Bruce Ellis; and his sister, Brenda Sue Ellis.

The family will greet friends Monday, September 8, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Bill will be laid to rest with military honors Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
