Zachary David Brennecke, son of Nathan and Tarissa Brennecke, was born in Omaha, NE on January 31, 2008 and passed away on April 20, 2024 at the age of 16 years.

Zachary was a sophomore at the Riverside High School in Oakland and previously attended Atlantic High School in Atlantic, IA. Zachary loved wrestling, football, and track and excelled in all sports. Zachary’s adventurous spirit shined through in his love for being outside. Hunting, fishing, boating, and especially riding dirt bikes were among his favorite hobbies.

Zachary loved his twin sister, McKenzie, and brothers Otto and Dylan. Words cannot do justice to the bond he shared with each of them. Zachary was so proud to be a big brother to Otto and everyone knew it. Many of his friends have reached out to Otto offering their support to him and treating him as if he were their own brother.

Zachary was known for his kind, caring and helpful nature. He always put others first. He had an infectious smile and he left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was blessed to be loved by many and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

Zachary is survived by his parents, Nathan and Tarissa; twin sister, McKenzie Brennecke; brothers, Otto Brennecke and Dylan Helmich; grandparents, Ted and Raynell Helmich, Steve and Sue Lee and David and Deanna Brennecke; great-grandmother, Margo Mosher; aunts and uncles, Travis (Jennifer) Lee, Treva (Weston) Carlson, Michael (Anna) Brennecke, and Ryan (Alex) Brennecke; cousins, Trenton Lee, Chelsea Williams, Melody Carlson, Whit Carlson, Makayla Brennecke, Dylan Brennecke and Colby Brennecke; and loving bonus family, Dave and Michele Hanson.

He was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Robert Mosher, Paul and Phyllis Lee, DeEtta Moore and great-aunt Maxine Mosher.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2024 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at West Des Moines Christian Church, 4501 Mills Civic Parkway, in West Des Moines. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
