Aldo Bruno Lombardi of Ankeny, Iowa

Aldo Bruno Lombardi, 93 passed away at Taylor House Hospice on June 20th, 2026. He was born on May 4th, 1933, in Madrid, Iowa to Esto and Olga (Bagatti) Lombardi.

After serving his country in the United States Navy as a machinist during the Korean War, Al married his first wife and welcomed his son, Loren. He began a long career as a pressman with Meredith Corp., later RR Donnelley, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to the company and his union where he served as union president.

In 1971, Al’s life became even richer when he married the love of his life, Mary. Together they built a beautiful family, as Al lovingly helped raise Mary’s three children—Steve, Stacey, and Kara—alongside his son, Loren. Their home was filled with children’s sporting events, motorcycle rides, laughter, and an endless supply of love.

Al was a man of many passions. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed bowling and fishing, and never met a dance floor he didn’t like. He treasured time spent with family and friends and was always ready to share a story, a smile, or a helping hand.

After Mary’s passing, Al remained as active as ever. You could often find him in one of two places—at the casino enjoying a little fun, or at the Vittoria Lodge, where he proudly dedicated countless hours of service. As a proud member for 75 years, he was recently honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his extraordinary commitment to the Lodge.

No matter how busy he was, nothing kept Al from attending his grandchildren’s activities and events, regardless of how far he had to travel. He cherished every opportunity to support them. Al also loved traveling with his family, making treasured memories on trips to London, Hilton Head, and while visiting family in the Carolinas, Kansas and Florida.

Al never knew a stranger. His warm personality, kind heart, and genuine gift of gab made him a friend to many. He will be deeply missed not only for the remarkable man he was, but also for the family he so proudly raised and the grandchildren and great-grandchildren he loved with all his heart.

Those left to cherish Aldo’s memory include his children, Loren (Karen) Lombardi, Steve (Ginger) Stewart and Stacey (Julie) Stewart; son-in-law, Doug (Kim) Steele; grandchildren, Gregory, Paige (Danny), Allison (Will), Kyleigh (Michael) and Janessa; Adam (Gina), Ashley, Brigham, Tanner (Emily), Logan and Bailey;
11 great-grandchildren with one on the way; siblings, Gloria (Larry) Polich and Duane (Betty) Lombardi, and a host of extended family and friends.

Aldo was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; sister, Rita Studenberg and daughter Kara Jo Steele.

The family would like to invite all to A Celebration of Life from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Vittoria Lodge, 7200 NW 2nd Ave, Ankeny, Iowa.
