Service Details

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that our sweet Alice gained her angel wings on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at the age of 15 months due to complications following a medical procedure. Alice Tillie Dougherty was born on February 9, 2024 to Neil and Amanda (Hunt) Dougherty in Des Moines, Iowa.

Though her time on this earth was brief, Alice left lasting footprints on the hearts of many. She was blessed with big, blue eyes that seemed to look right into your soul. Known for her endearing 'judging looks' and sweet smile, Alice was cherished by all who had the joy of knowing her. She had a special fondness for anything with wheels, often lying on the floor to spin them over and over with fascination. Alice also had a deep love for music—her favorite song was You Are My Sunshine, which never failed to calm her heart rate.

Above all, Alice loved her family. She adored her big brother and he was always able to make her laugh. She loved watching her twin sister to see what she was up to and loved reaching out to hold her. However, she did not like it when Ava would steal her toys, which happened frequently. Alice lit up whenever she saw either of her parents and would give them big, wet kisses on their cheek. Alice was the best cuddler and would snuggle her head right up by your neck.

Alice spent many weeks in hospital beds, facing each challenge with incredible strength and bravery. Even at a young age, Alice could withstand invasive procedures with barely a cry. However, she greatly disliked having her blood pressure or temperature taken. Her sassy personality and quiet courage quickly made her a favorite among her nurses, doctors, and caregivers. Her absence is profoundly felt by all who knew and cared for her.

Alice is survived by her loving parents, Neil and Amanda Dougherty; her big brother, Jensen; and her twin sister, Ava. She is also survived by her paternal grandparents, Steve and Val Dougherty; her maternal grandfather, Kenneth Hunt; and her maternal grandmother, Karen Hunt. Cherishing her memory are her aunts, Katie (Tim) Barkema, Sara Dougherty, and Dana Hunt; her cousins, Avery (Jade) Pringitz, Keagan Barkema, Lauryn Barkema, Skye Sailsbury, Brynnley Sailsbury, Tima Hunt, Ruqaiyah Obeid, Abu Bakr Obeid, Uthman Obeid, Aminah Obeid, and Bilal Obeid; along with an army of other loving family members and friends.

She was welcomed into Heaven by her paternal great-grandparents, Russ and Maxine Dougherty and Ryle and Bernice Andrews; her maternal great-grandparents, James and Betty Hunt and Luverne and Dorothy Jansen; and her triplet sibling who passed away in the first trimester.

The family will greet friends and family at a visitation on Sunday, June 8, 2025 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church (914 NW Ash Dr., Ankeny). Funeral services will be on Monday, June 9, 2025 at 12 p.m. at the church, with burial to follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery in Alleman. After the burial, you are invited to join the family at the church for desserts as we continue to honor and remember Alice's life together. The family invites you to wear your Alice’s Army shirt or dress in pink or yellow at both services to honor her memory. If guests are unable to attend the service in person, the family invites them to join virtually for Alice’s service through the link in her obituary below.

Memorial contributions may be directed to either the Ronald McDonald House Charities Omaha or the Child Life department at University of Nebraska Medical Center in memory of Alice.
