Alvin Perry White

Alvin White passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, at the age of 92. He was born on August 30, 1932, in Park Rapids, Minnesota, to Perry and Adeline White. In 1938, he moved with his family from Park Rapids to Des Moines. He attended Kirkwood Elementary, Callahan Junior High, and Tech High School, graduating in 1950. During his high school years, he formed friendships that lasted a lifetime.

He served his country in the U.S. Air Force as an Aircraft Structural Maintenance Specialist, repairing aircraft body damage, including work on the F-47 jet. After his military service, he attended Grand View College. On June 22, 1957, he married Frances Kibbe. They were married for 62 years and had one daughter.

Al worked for Iowa Parcel Service for 24 years. After its abrupt closure, he went on to manage Walcro Floor Covering in Des Moines until his retirement.

He is survived by his daughter, Cathie (Brian) Meng; his grandchildren, Emily (Alex) Lord and Ethan (Taylor) Meng; and his great-grandchildren, Liam, Alanna, and Valerie Lord, and Nolan Meng.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Kibbe White, and his parents, Perry and Adeline White.

Family will greet guests on Monday, May 12, 2025 from 12:00 -1:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa. Alvin will be laid to rest at a graveside service at 1:00 p.m., at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Ave., Des Moines.
