Carol Kay Elmore

Carol Kay Elmore, 83, of Altoona, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2025, at Parkridge Specialty Care in Pleasant Hill from Alzheimer’s.
Carol was born on January 8, 1942, to John and Stella (Torkelson) Niebergall in Moorehead, Minnesota. She was one of ten children, being the oldest daughter. Carol had five brothers, Sunny, Bob, Gary, Bruce, and Jimmy; and four sisters, Pam, Charlene, Judy, and Mary
After graduating high school, Carol joined the United States Navy where she served three years. While in D.C., she had met her husband, Carlton Elmore, who also join in the United States Navy after high school and served for 20 years. Carol and Carlton got married on August 1, 1964, and lived in many different places including Germany, Maryland, and Virginia Beach; finally making Iowa their home. Together they had two children, Pam and Gary; two grandchildren, Mackenzie and Max; and one great-grandchild, Brewer. Carol was a kind, loving, and strong woman. She enjoyed playing cribbage, building puzzles, crocheting, crossword puzzles, reading, and was a fantastic cook.
Carol will be deeply missed, but her family is grateful that she is no longer suffering from pain and has gained her wings as she’s joined her family and the Lord in Heaven.
Carol is survived by her husband, Carlton; her children, Pam (Alan) Strong and Gary Elmore; her grandchildren, Mackenzie (Jake) Wilkening and Max (Ariel) Strong; her great-grandson, Brewer Wilkening; her brother, Jimmy (Roberta); and her sisters, Pam, Charlene (Vince), Judy (Ab) and Mary.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, John and Stella; and her brothers, Sunny, Bob, Gary, and Bruce; and her brothers-in-law, Lloyd and Jerry.
Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home; 105 4th Street SW, Altoona. Carol’s final resting place will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Carol.
