David R. Hollingworth

David Richard Hollingworth, beloved father and grandfather, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, at age 81.

David was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, on October 18, 1943, to Neal and Marion (Anderson) Hollingworth. His family moved to Des Moines, where he attended and graduated from North High School in 1962. David wed Carolyn Ann Lethcoe in 1964 and they began their life long journey together.

After receiving a degree in technical drafting, David accepted a job at Collins Radio as a draftsman. David and Carolyn moved to Cedar Rapids and soon after started a family with the birth of their sons, Robert and Mark. Their family relocated to Des Moines in 1974.

David was a career technical draftsman for various companies in and around the Des Moines area, before retiring from the Ken Brattney Company in the early 2000’s.

After retiring, David enjoyed spending more time at home with Carolyn, gardening, and watching his grandchildren. They enjoyed traveling and took cross country and numerous bus trips together.

David and Carolyn were long time member of First Federated Church in Des Moines. There they enjoyed volunteering and being involved in various church activities.

David also had a passion for wood-working and had made many beautiful pieces of furniture in his basement wood shop. He will always be remembered by his family and friends for the many wonderful handcrafted wooden gifts and Christmas ornaments he made over the years.

Always a loving husband, father, and grandfather, David will be dearly missed by his surviving family. He is survived by his brother, Larry Hollingworth; his sons, Robert and Mark (Cara) Hollingworth; and his grandchildren, Ian, Adrian, and Aleighla.

David was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn, and his parents, Neal and Marion Hollingworth.

David will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines, Iowa.
