Darby Joann Matteson

Darby Joann Matteson, 81, passed away April 22, 2024.

Darby was born October 3, 1942, in Bismarck, North Dakota to Roy and Lucy Matteson and grew up in Center, North Dakota. She graduated from Bismarck High school in 1960 and moved to Des Moines, Iowa.

She loved helping others, traveling, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Darby worked for the State of Iowa as an investigator for the department of inspections and appeals for many years. After she retired, she enjoyed keeping in touch with her coworkers.

Darby leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sister Berma Matteson of Brookings, OR; her children, Rebecca (Brent) Thomsen of Des Moines, Scott (Brenda) Ingle of Mitchellville and Shari Ingle of Kansas City MO; and grandchildren, Matteson, Taylor, Olivia, Jay, Cole, and Jakob; and great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Leo, and Lainey; and nieces, nephew, and many cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lucy Matteson and her brother, Barry Matteson.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Willow On Grand, 6011 Grand Avenue, Des Moines IA.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the ARL of Iowa, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Iowa.

A Special “Thank You” to the Staff at Valley View Village for their wonderful care of Darby during her stay.
