Donald "Don" Shaver

Don Shaver, age 87, passed away on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 15, 2025. He was born the son of Nellie and Dwayne Shaver on January 3, 1938, in New Providence, Iowa.

Don grew up in the New Providence area and met Marlene Miller while they were both at New Providence High School. They married in 1957 and started their family. In 1961 they moved their young family to the Altoona area. After farming for a few years and growing their family, Don started his career driving a truck for North American Van Lines and they moved into Altoona in 1965.

Don drove the truck for 48 years, earning many awards. Don and Marlene enjoyed the numerous trips he won for being one of the company's top drivers. In their free time, Don and Marlene traveled even more, from their Alaska cruise to touring National Parks and Hawaii.

Don never quit farming. He owned land for a number of years in Lorimor and Marshalltown. He loved owning and working on vintage tractors. He enjoyed attending tractor shows and parades, sharing this with his kids and especially his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene; children, Craig (Vickie) Shaver, Diane White, Scott (Diane) Shaver, Steve (Missy) Shaver, John (Connie) Shaver, Stacey (Joe) Rohe, Jeff(Mindy) Shaver; 24 grandkids; and 24 great grandkids; and sister Janet(Woody) Grabenbauer.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian Shaver; sisters, June Bradley, and Joyce Jessen; brother-in-law, Ron Jessen.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday, June 23, 2025, with funeral service following at 11:00 a.m., at Saints John and Paul Catholic Church 1401 1st Ave. S., Altoona, Iowa, 50009. Burial will take place at Altoona Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of the Midwest or Saints John and Paul Catholic Church in loving memory of Don.
